Terms

Terms of use and end-user licence for the DrLilo Mac app, Lilo for iPhone, Lilo Cloud and this website. Last updated: 5 November 2026.

Who provides Lilo

Lilo is provided by Philipp Putze, Munich, Germany (details in the imprint), contact lilo@drlilo.com. By installing or using Lilo you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use it.

A free beta

Lilo is currently a free beta. Features can change, break or be removed, and the beta can end at any time. There is no right to a particular feature, to updates or to support. Please keep your own backups of anything important.

Your licence

You may install and use the DrLilo app on Macs you own or control, for your own research, study or work, including within your lab or organisation. The licence is personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable and free of charge. You may not sell, rent or redistribute the app, remove its notices, or circumvent its security or usage limits. Decompiling or reverse engineering is not allowed except where the law permits it (§ 69e UrhG). Third-party components are licensed under their own terms, listed in the app’s third-party licences. All rights not granted here stay with us.

AI answers can be wrong

Lilo is an AI assistant. His answers, summaries, citations, calculations, code and plans can be incomplete or wrong, even when he shows his sources. Check anything important before you rely on it, especially in publications, grant applications, experiments and safety-relevant lab work. Lilo is not a medical device and does not give medical, legal or other professional advice. Don’t use him to diagnose or treat people.

Your content

Your chats, files, notes and results stay yours, and we claim no rights to them. You are responsible for the data you give Lilo: only use data you are allowed to process, and don’t send personal or patient data, or confidential data, to a cloud model unless you are permitted to. When you connect your own AI provider (for example with your own API key), that provider’s terms and prices apply and you are responsible for that account.

Lilo Cloud

Lilo Cloud is an optional, sponsored allowance of AI computing that needs a registration. It is free while our credits last, with daily, monthly and shared limits. We can change the limits, the models, or pause or end Lilo Cloud at any time; it is not transferable credit and has no cash value. When you use it, don’t:

We may suspend or delete a registration that breaks these rules or puts the service at risk.

Liability

Because Lilo is provided free of charge, we are liable only for intent and gross negligence. This does not limit liability for injury to life, body or health, for defects we fraudulently concealed, or under the German Product Liability Act. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have as a consumer that cannot be excluded by contract.

Privacy

How we handle personal data is described in the privacy policy.

Ending

You can stop using Lilo at any time: delete your Lilo Cloud registration in the app (Settings → Privacy → Manage registration) and move the app to the Trash. If we end the beta or your licence, the sections on AI answers, your content and liability continue to apply.

Changes

We may update these terms, for example when features or the law change. We will show the date above and announce important changes on this website or in the app. If you keep using Lilo after a change, the new terms apply.

Law

German law applies, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. If you are a consumer, this does not take away the protection of the mandatory law of the country where you live. If any part of these terms is invalid, the rest remains in force.
